Modular Snap-Fit Hexagons Start with one hexagon and grow from there! This modular honeycomb system can be built small for a single plant pot, expanded into a larger climbing frame, arranged as wall décor, or simply used as a satisfying snap-together puzzle. I made this because I wanted a modular hexagon system that would still look like one continuous honeycomb as it grows. Many modular hexagon builds create each cell as a separate loop, which can leave doubled-up walls where neighbouring hexagons meet. Here, each side is shared by the overall structure, keeping the result clean, open, and seamless no matter how wide or tall you make it. Two sizes are currently available: Small — great for compact pots, smaller plants, cosy spaces, and smaller decorative builds Large — ideal for bigger pots, wall-mounted arrangements, larger climbing frames, and bigger honeycomb patterns More sizes, compatible shapes, and extra fitting pieces may appear in future updates. Have an idea or a shape you would like to see? Feel free to leave a comment! Assembly The pieces snap together using pegs and sockets. At each connection point, one bar end is a peg and the remaining connected ends are sockets. Free ends can be either type. For everyday-sized builds, the snap-fit joints should be plenty. I have not tested a truly huge build yet, so if you go big and it has a little wobble, a dab of glue on a few joints can add extra firmness. For plant-support builds, make sure the finished structure is supported securely by its pot, stake, wall, or chosen mounting setup. Print files The provided print file includes three build plates: Large version — one of each part for the large system Small version — one of each part for the small system Stick and Stand — optional mounting pieces The Small and Large version plates contain only one copy of each part type . They are included so you can see and select all available parts for that size, but they do not create a complete hexagon when printed once. Before printing, duplicate the individual parts in your slicer until you have the quantities needed for your chosen layout. The Hexagon Planner below will tell you exactly how many of each bar and connector to print. Click individual bars or full hexagons to build your shape, or enter rows and columns to generate a grid. You can also export a layout as JSON and import it later. The planner counts bars and connectors automatically; add Stand and Stick quantities manually if you are using them. Printing notes A print profile is included for the parts. The parts use a small amount of light tree support in a few areas. These supports are easy to remove and help keep the finished pieces looking clean. Print a small test section first if you would like to check the snap-fit with your printer and filament. PLA is a great option for indoor decorative use. PETG is a nice choice if you would like a little more durability, flexibility, or moisture resistance. Happy printing!
