KAP Kite Photography Picavet Self-Leveling Mount

KAP Picavet for GoPro — Indexed-Yaw Kite Aerial Photography Mount Designed for kite aerial photography (KAP), this lightweight Picavet provides stable camera suspension and twelve indexed yaw positions for aiming a GoPro-style action camera. Inspired by Sea_E’s Picavet design. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1482205-picavet-suspension#profileId-1547888 The camera attaches directly to the integrated three-prong GoPro-style mount using a standard M5 thumbscrew and captive nut. Debossed A, B, C and D labels help guide the Picavet threading. Default Bambu Studio supports worked well when printing the cantilevered camera mount. Assembly After printing, carefully ream the indexing channels in the rotor with a suitably sized drill bit or deburring tool. Prepare two lengths of 1.75 mm printer filament: Pass one piece completely through the main stem channel. This engages the grooves in the rotor to provide indexed yaw adjustment. Cut the second piece into two shorter sections. Insert one section into each side of the intersecting stem channel to provide additional support and stability. Install the filament with its natural curve facing downward. The curve provides a light spring force that may be sufficient to keep the filament seated in the selected rotor channels. For a more positive hold, press the filament pieces downward until they click fully into the channels. I also used a small amount of glue to keep all three filament pieces in place. Install a standard M5 nut in the captive pocket, then attach a compatible two-prong GoPro case or adapter using an M5 GoPro-style thumbscrew. Parts and materials Printed Picavet base Printed indexed-yaw rotor Four #216 screw eyes, 1/2 × 1/2 inch One standard M5 nut One M5 GoPro-style thumbscrew Two lengths of 1.75 mm printer filament Dyneema suspension line Stainless-steel fishing rings Two lightweight aluminum carabiners Small amount of suitable glue Compatible two-prong GoPro-style camera case or adapter Example hardware Lightweight aluminum carabiner pack Stainless-steel fishing rings kit Picavet-line winder A simple storage winder can be made from a dowel, sturdy cardboard tube or approximately one-foot section of PVC pipe. Install one screw eye near the middle and another near one end. Clip one Picavet carabiner to the screw eye in the middle of the winder. Wind the line in a figure-eight around the winder itself, positioning the center screw eye in the middle of the wound figure eight. Continue until all the line is stored, then clip the second carabiner to the screw eye near the end of the winder. This keeps the complete suspension organized and helps prevent tangles between flights. Printing notes PETG or ASA is recommended. Use five or six walls and at least 40% infill (Or try the defaults and see if that works for you) Print the rotor stem-down with the GoPro mount facing upward. Enable Use supports with the default Bambu Studio support settings. A brim may improve rotor stability during printing. Inspect and clean the captive-nut pocket, screw passage, fin gaps and filament channels before assembly. Safety Inspect every printed component, screw eye, filament piece, suspension line, carabiner and camera connection before each flight. Replace anything worn, cracked or damaged. Keep the suspended rig clear of people, vehicles, power lines and property.
