I came up with the idea for this hairpin quite randomly at work. I work with an MRI machine, and one day a colleague needed a hairpin. Since traditional hairpins are often made of metal, I thought it would be useful to have a simple plastic alternative that could be 3D printed whenever needed. This hairpin won't hold quite as firmly as a traditional metal one, but it can work surprisingly well depending on your hair type, thickness, and hairstyle. My version was printed in PETG , which I recommend because of its combination of strength and flexibility. It can also be printed in PLA and many other materials, as well as in practically any color. I recommend using a relatively strong material with some flexibility, since the hairpin needs to flex slightly during use. The holding strength will vary depending on the material used and your hair type. It is not intended to replace a traditional metal hairpin in situations where maximum holding strength is required. The idea was originally inspired by the need for a metal-free hairpin around an MRI environment . Always follow the safety procedures and guidelines of your MRI facility. Special thanks to Dora for the original model/inspiration.
