When the old cathedral began to collapse, the people abandoned it. Its bells were taken. Its statues were broken. Its doors were sealed, and the names of those buried beneath its floor slowly disappeared from memory. But the cathedral remembered them all. Deep beneath the ruins, its stones began to move. Broken arches joined like bones. Iron braces tightened around a newly formed body, while shattered towers rose from its shoulders. At the centre of its chest, the last surviving rose window opened once more—not toward the sun, but toward the darkness that had awakened it. On Halloween night, the cathedral finally stood up. It stepped down from its foundations and walked into the streets, carrying its empty chapels, forgotten prayers and restless dead within its enormous body. It does not search for revenge. It searches for a place where it can be rebuilt. And wherever it stops, the ground beneath its feet slowly begins to turn into stone.
