The Gemini capsule is typically modeled at a scale of 1/24. The larger you make a model, the more detail you can achieve. Considering the dimensions of the large parts and the size of a typical desktop 3D printer, a scale of 1/16 can be achieved. A model of this size is 372mm (14.6”) long by 196mm (7.7”) in diameter.
The Gemini program gets lost in the triumphs of the Apollo program, but it answered some critical questions required by the Apollo program which was in its initial design phase. A total of twelve launches occurred from April 8, 1964 to November 11, 1966. The most critical question answered was can a spacecraft maneuver and dock with another spacecraft? Other questions included can a human survive in space for two weeks, can a capsule be flown or steered to a specific landing location, to perform EVAs, and can a fuel cell be developed to replace heavy batteries by converting hydrogen and oxygen gases into electricity and water. Another interesting innovation was the use of ejection seats versus an escape tower that was used on the Mercury mission. All spacecraft since then have used the escape tower concept except the first two man shuttle missions that had ejection seats.
