Golf Tee, minimal contact area for longer drives

Updated 5/17/2025

While I like the simplicity of printing without supports, one of my friends could not get used to angling the tee when putting it into the ground so it ends up straight once at the proper height.  I added an updated model with the point in the center.  This bottom part will need supports to print properly.  It requires its own tip protector to save your skin when the tee is in your pocket.  I print the tees using ABS to make them last  longer, typically an entire round if I am hitting the ball well.  PLA or PETG will break on the first hit.  If anyone prints in other materials like ASA or PCTG, please let me know in the comments how they work.

One of my friends likes to keep a tee in his pocket, he mentioned that this one was quite sharp and dug into his finger a few times.  If I make the tip duller, it will not penetrate as well into hard soil.  I created a cover where the contour is slightly bigger at the front and goes to a compression fit.  There is a ridge on the outside to indicate the front of the tee for proper insertion.  I printed in TPU and PLA, both work well.  You may have to use a bit of XY compensation for a good fit depending on your printer.

After much testing and several different styles, this golf tee was the one that worked the best.  The goal was to provide a tee with only a few contact areas with the ball in order to minimize interference.  The front post is slightly lower than the back two for that reason.

Printed in ABS, 0.2mm height, 100% infill.  Even with that, they are only about six cents per tee.  I tested PLA and PETG, neither one lasted very long compared to ABS.  When I  hit the ball well with a clean stroke, the tees last a long time and the ball flies well.  When my stroke is not good, the tees break, giving me quick feedback that I need to adjust my swing.  A friend of mine who is a scratch golfer can use one tee for a few rounds, I am not that good, yet I still do not go through as many as when using purchased tees.
