This (very) fast-printing trading card storage solution has been specifically designed to print in ‘vase mode’ to allow for very low print times and economical filament usage. Each box holds approximately 400 standard size trading cards (Pokémon, Football, MTG etc.) separated into 8 equal slots (50 cards in each). I have also included optional label cards to allow for easy labelling/sorting of card types.

There are many great designs for printable trading card storage boxes already available, but existing designs tend to be either quite small or require a lot of filament and time to print, especially when multiple boxes are needed. Existing high-capacity boxes also tend to feature just one large storage compartment, resulting in the cards falling over and becoming mixed up when the box is not completely full.

To overcome these issues, I designed a trading card storage solution with the following key requirements in mind:

• Can accommodate around 400 trading cards. (standard size cards - approximately 64 x 89mm).
• Has eight separate slots, each holding up to 50 trading cards. This ensures that cards are held securely upright, even when the box is not at capacity, and also allows for sorting cards into groups.
• Optional label cards to allow for easy labelling/sorting of card types in each slot.
• Designed to take advantage of ‘vase mode’ efficiencies for extremely fast printing and low filament usage.
• Suitable for use with soft sleeves when scaled to 105%.

UPDATE 28/05/2025: I have added 1/2 size boxes (hold 200 cards) and 1/4 size boxes (hold 100 cards), as I had quite a few requests for these. The 1/4 size is also useful as a handy deck box. The files for these are contained in 'Smaller_Versions,zip'. The new sized boxes can be seen in the last photo.

Printing Instructions: 

The boxes and lids are designed to print in ‘vase mode’ with a line/extrusion width of 0.8mm. (The 'vase mode' setting varies between slicers, for example in Cura it is 'Spiralize outer contour' and in PrusaSlicer / BambuStudio it is 'Spiral Vase')

For optimal print times I use a layer height of 0.32mm.

Alternatively, the boxes/lids can be printed in non-vase mode using 2 external walls (at 0.4mm line width), zero infill and zero top layers. (Although this will increase print times)

The optional label cards should be printed in non-vase mode. These can be easily customised in most slicers to add text to the tab section for labelling. By extruding the text upwards a different colour can be used through a filament change.

There are two versions of the lid available: one at standard height for trading cards only, and an extra-tall version to accommodate the optional label cards.

All models should be printed in their default orientation.

If you intend to use soft sleeves for your cards, the model should be scaled to 105% in the slicer. I have tested this scale with Vault X and Ultra-Pro sleeves, but the scale needed for other types may vary.
