Ice fishing rod

Printing

I recommend printing in PETG. The tip should be printed with 100% infill. All settings are included in the provided 3mf file.

I have included nuts with different clearance, print all and use the one that works best.

Assembly

Wire loops

Start by making three wire loops. I used 0.9mm stainless steel wire.

Cut a piece of wire, 5-6cm, and bend it in the middle around an hex key or other metal rod. Use a pair of pliers to twist the wire to create a nice loop. Cut the twisted part about 5mm from the loop.

Reel and rod

Glue the top and bottom parts of the reel together and then glue the knob onto the reel.

Glue the tip into the handle.

Screw in the wire loops into the holes (two on the side of the handle and one at the end of the tip), use glue if needed.

Put the reel on the handle and secure it with a nut. All included nuts have different clearances, use the one that is tightest while still easy to turn.

Usage

Put line on the spool and through one of the side loops (the other can be used to hold the hook) and the loop at the end of the tip. Use the nut to control the tension on the spool. If you tension the nut properly you will be able to pull line out when the reel is pointing upwards but the reel will lock if it is pointing downwards (see video).
