This film carrier provides great film flatness and smooth film feeding action while being quick to print and easy to assemble.

This design is my attempt to improve on existing 3D printed film carrier designs, focusing on film flatness and low print time.

The scanning inserts support sprocket scans (see example images made with this carrier).

Film flatness has been tested with a Pentax K-1 + SMC Pentax-FA 50mm F2.8 Macro.

I regularly use this design to scan my film and I will do my best to publish any improvements I make as I discover issues.

Print Requirements

Use a layer height of 0.2mm (or a divisor of 0.2mm) – this is required for some film track features on the insert to print at the right dimensions.
Use a high infill – at least 60% – for the Carrier parts (base, inserts, and top). With a lower infill, they might not be sturdy enough. The riser and mask can and should be printed with standard infill to save time and material.
The riser requires support material – all other parts print without it.

Future Work / Known Issues

The carrier inserts should support a full-width Xpan frame (65mm), but the riser and light source mask do not.
The mask and riser kit are designed only for the CineStill CS-LITE light source (a fantastic light source and an even better deal, in my personal opinion. I am not sponsored by CineStill). Other masks and risers could be designed.
