Fast 608 bearing

This is a very simple, very fast to print bearing made of three interlocking rings which print in place. You can use it as a drop-in replacement for ordinary skateboard bearings, but because it relies on sliding rather than rolling elements, it should only be used for very light duty applications.

I recommend cranking up your vertical shells / wall loops so that the entire thing prints solid. It doesn't take any longer to print, and it reduces the whole print to a bunch of circles.

Two versions are included. The low tolerance version has 0.3 mm clearances on either side, while the high tolerance version has 0.4 mm clearances. So if printed perfectly, the two versions will have 0.6 and 0.8 mm of play respectively, not accounting for flexibility in the material.

I found that the low tolerance version prints easily on my X1CC, but not on my MK3s+, which is currently slightly over-extruding.

Comparison to more complicated designs with rolling elements:

  • Nearly twice as fast to print
  • Consistently smooth operation
  • Easy to print with little play
  • Likely less durable

I've also turned this model into an online generator which will let you specify arbitrary dimensions.
