Arducam B0205 1080P Day & Night Vision USB Camera Case / Enclosure

This is an enclosure for the Arducam 1080P Day & Night Vision USB Camera Module (SKU: B0205) which is a nice camera USB with auto-switching infrared night vision.

The back of the enclosure has a mount that works with the Modular Mounting System Arms. Also check out the #modular_mount and #MMs tags on Thingiverse for compatible parts.

STEP files are available for easy remixing so that you can make your own back plates. The full Onshape CAD document is also available.

Heads-Up!

This camera enclosure is for the now discontinued Arducam B0205 camera module. Its successor, the Arducam B0506, is also called “1080P Day & Night Vision USB Camera” and sometimes incorrectly listed as “SKU: B0205” or “B0205 rev E” on Amazon. The enclosure is not compatible with the B0506 module.

You can easily identify the modules: The B0205 has 5 IR LEDs and the IR sensor on the right. The B0506 has 6 IR LEDs and the IR sensor at the top. The connector of the B0205 is at the front pointing down. The connector of the B0506 is at the back.

Determine Correct Case Size

The LED leg lengths aren't consistent across all the B0205 camera modules and you might have a module with longer or shorter legs. The Case STL is available in several different sizes to accommodate a reasonably wide range of LED leg lengths.

Measure the length of the LED legs and round up to the nearest available size. If the LED legs on your module have inconsistent lengths take the measurement from the longest leg.

Ball Joint VS Single Axis Back Plate

The Single Axis Back Plate allows about 180 degrees of freedom up and down or left and right, depending on how you mount the back plate.
The Ball Joint Back Plate allows about 240 degrees of freedom in one direction and additionally about 25 degrees of ball joint adjustment in any direction including rotating the camera. But it increases the overall length of the arm.

Printing

Print the parts in the original orientation. All STL files are pre-rotated for printing.

Print Settings

Material: PLA, PETG, etc.
Layer height: 0.2mm
Extrusion width: 0.4mm
Perimeters: 4
Top and bottom solid layers: 5
Infill: 30%
Supports: No

B0205 Case [X]mm.stl” and “B0205 Spacer.stl” can be printed with 0% infill.

Important Info for Ball Joint

The ball joint is a print-in-pace model. Do not separate the two parts or move them individually.
Do not print the ball joint with supports, brims, or rafts or the two parts will be fused together.

Assembly

Insert the camera module into the Case. Pay attention to not bend any of the LEDs or the the sensor.
Add the Spacer and Back Plate.
Secure everything with the M2x20mm screws and nuts.
If using the ball joint, screw it onto the Back Plate

Version 2.0 - 2023-02-05

This is a complete redesign with various improvements due to several reports regarding difficulties with fitting the LEDs and sensor through the holes and inconsistencies in the LED leg lengths on the camera modules.

This version features the following changes:

A single hole for all the IR LEDs and the sensor with better clearance for easy assembly.
Different versions for different LED leg lengths due to assembly inconsistencies by Arducam.
More space around the JST connector to account for not 100% perfectly positioned connector.

More precise screw hole positions and wider screw holes (no more reaming)
Improved counterbore holes that print better without supports
